ABOUT RIDGELINE CLINICS
Clinics are a great way to get your foot in the door with mounted archery and supplement your training. Our intensive and immersive clinics range from three to five days and include multiple sessions a day. Students at all levels are welcome to join in our Warrior clinics and camps. For students who have no or limited horse experience, we will arrange for special private and introductory group lessons one or two days prior to the clinic. One of the unique and special things we offer at Ridgeline is Nambu Yabusame clinics, where students learn the art of traditional Japanese horse archery and have the opportunity to take a Yabusame License test which allows them to compete worldwide.

Beginner through advanced groups!
Warrior Camps are our gold standard mounted archery clinics. They are suitable for both beginners through advanced students. We include special sessions on safe falling techniques, sword work, zen meditation and more. All of which contribute to the success and continued progress of our students. Five days is a perfect amount of time to learn and progress without exhausting yourself completely. Students make the most progress and have the best experience in Warrior Camps.

The Path to Mastery
Mounted archery is challenging, but you can do it following this progression pathway. We use the Guild training system to help students pass milestones on their learning journey. Each clinic ends with a level test. Once students pass their Beginner level tests, they earn a lifetime merit membership with the International Guild of Mounted Archers.

Yabusame
Specialty Clinic
Once students have passed their license test they can participate in competitions that we host and qualify to compete abroad.
Yabusame Clinics are only open to students who are confident at the canter and have some experience with mounted archery. All Yabusame work happens at the canter and the Yumi are large and require some skill to handle safely. Clinics are 3 days and include yumi and ya rental (bow and arrows) and Yabusame outfit rental, horse use and testing fees.
Meet Your Clinician
Carey Elmring Norland is a world class competitor and clinician in mounted archery and Yabusame. He competes nationally and internationally and teaches students from all over the world. Carey was the winner of the 2025 World Yabusame Championships, and is one of only two foreign certified Nambu Yabusame instructors, alongside Numair Edrisy of Indonesia.
He has a strong focus on safety and horsemanship and helps students build strong foundations of knowledge and skill so they can achieve their goals. He has spent many years training animals, and imparts that knowledge to his students so they can have success with their equine partners.

Carey also enjoys doing mounted archery performances where they get to share the thrill and beauty of mounted archery. They also love doing student internships and helping aspiring mounted archers get started with instructing.
